Evaluation and Management of the First Unprovoked Seizure in Children: Single-Center Experience First Unprovoked Seizure in Children

Aim: We aimed to evaluate clinical and laboratory features in children who presented unprovoked seizure for the first time also determine possible risk factors recurrence. Materials Methods: A total of 219 patients (113 female, 106 male) a were included study. Demographic, findings (type duration seizures, recurrence, antiseizure drugs), neuroimaging electroencephalography (EEG) results recorded retrospectively. Results: The median age was 30 months (IQR 12-66). history birth hypoxia and/or phototherapy family epilepsy present 21% 17.4% cases, respectively. Generalized seizures most common type (42%), with predominance at <2 years compared other groups (p=0,007). Seizures recurred 28% patients. Abnormal EEG detected 33.8% studied them >2 (p<0,01). Brain MRI abnormalities 19% recurrence higher abnormal (p<0,001). No correlation found between abnormality. In focal rate than generalized seizures. Antiseizure therapy initiated 44% Drug switch required 22 due side effects. Etiology determined nearly half Conclusion: our study, brain as Comprehensive etiological investigation should be considered following episode especially under two years.
